Colby Covington has challenged Kamaru Usman to face him in Real American Freestyle.

Covington beat Luke Rockhold in his RAF debut earlier this year before his link to the promotion recently became even stronger.

‘Chaos’ is now a long-term partner and investor in Real American Beer and he’s got another wrestling match that he hopes to tick off in the near future.

Similarly to the talks of Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier completing their trilogy in RAF, Covington has posed a similar pitch to the greatest rival of his career, Kamaru Usman.

Colby Covington calls out Kamaru Usman for trilogy RAF match if he doesn’t get the next title shot

Colby Covington wants to compete against Kamaru Usman for the third time by facing his former UFC foe in a Real American Freestyle wrestling match.

Usman recently said that he’s not on the same page as the UFC regarding his push to challenge Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title.

Covington told Bloody Elbow that he believes ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ should get the shot but if he doesn’t, he’s got a proposition for the former champion.

“You know what I’d really like to see? I’d like to see Usman in Real American Freestyle,” he said. “We need to do this. We need to settle the trilogy in Real American Freestyle so that’s what I’m proposing here today. If Usman doesn’t get the title fight, come see daddy at Real American Freestyle and let’s do this trilogy b—-.”

Covington was unsuccessful when challenging Usman for the 170-pound gold on two occasions, once in 2019 and once in 2021.

He believes that the first fight was a “scam” due to the actions of the referee and that a lot of people had him winning their rematch by three rounds to two.

Usman’s recent comments about the kinds of matchups he wants have only led to Covington believing that it could actually happen.

“I think he would [take the match],” he told Bloody Elbow. “He’s a competitor. He likes to compete, he’s still got that fire and drive. He wants these title fights, he wants these big matchups… I think he would do it. I think it intrigues him. I think he wants to settle the score.

“He’s said for a while that he wants to do a trilogy with me because we’ve got unfinished business… It only makes sense. Let’s settle this in Real American Freestyle for our trilogy Usman.”

Kamaru Usman scored the only takedown in his two fights with Colby Covington

Despite both men being known for their wrestling prowess, the first meeting between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington at UFC 245 saw neither man attempt a takedown.

The fight played out entirely as a striking battle, which ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ emerged victorious in when he stopped his opponent with just 50 seconds left on the clock.

Covington’s 11 attempted takedowns in their UFC 268 rematch show a change in approach from ‘Chaos’.

However, UFC stats gave the only successful takedown of the fight to Usman despite him having 10 fewer attempts than his challenger.
