The bantamweight clash between Ailin Perez and Macy Chiasson was overshadowed by the official.
Kris Moutinho’s fourth consecutive loss saw the judges get called into action for the second time on Saturday night at Arena CDMX.
Before some of the roster’s top Mexican stars made the walk on the main card, a ranked bout in the women’s bantamweight division took place.
The judges were utilized once again but it was the referee that ended up drawing the attention of fans during UFC Mexico City.

Raul Porrata receives criticism from fans due to his calls in Ailin Perez vs Macy Chiasson
Referee Raul Porrata was scrutinized for the calls that he made while being the third person in the Octagon in Mexico City.
Ailin Perez continued the women’s bantamweight division’s longest winning streak by earning her sixth consecutive win over Macy Chiasson.
Chiasson was able to answer Perez’s threats about her making weight before losing a unanimous decision, with all scorecards reading 29-28.
The Argentinian’s six takedowns were crucial to the victory despite the referee surprisingly standing them up in the second round and repeatedly shouting “fight” while she was working on the ground.
Perez still got the win, but one fan wrote that a loss would be as a result of the ‘awful’ stand up from the ref, with plenty of comments calling for him to be ‘fired immediately’.
Others went one step further by saying that he should ‘never ref a UFC fight again’ and should be ‘dismissed for the last round’.
While some argued that ‘we need to eliminate stalling from this sport’ in support of the official’s call, the egregious nature of this decision was summarized by one comment, reading, ‘The ref just stood up the crowd.’
One fan stated, ‘This ref would hate Khabib [Nurmagomedov]‘, showing just how strange the standup was due to the work Perez was doing on the ground.

What’s next for Ailin Perez after UFC Mexico City?
With a win over the fighter ranked one spot higher than her, Ailin Perez could take a step closer to the top five of the women’s bantamweight division.
Her #7 spot didn’t have any impact on the fight that she called for after getting her hand raised inside the Octagon.
Perez has history with ranked flyweight fighter Tracy Cortez and made it clear in her post-fight interview that this is the matchup she wants next.
