Eric Bischoff infamously declared that ‘controversy creates cash’, but perhaps not in the way Arman Tsarukyan did it tonight.
The former WCW boss is now the Chief Media Officer of RAF Wrestling, and was in attendance for their sixth show in Arizona. An exciting co-main event between top UFC lightweight contender Tsarukyan and popular high school standout Georgio Poullas ended with the Armenian landing a 5-3 win.
Can Arman Tsarukyan be trusted with a UFC title shot?
Between punching a fan at UFC 300, his Dan Hooker headbutt and now the RAF brawl, is Arman Tsarukyan too much of a loose canon for the UFC title?
But after the fact, he turned from freestyle to MMA as he threw a punch at his opponent and even tossed a knee. It caused a brawl on stage, which even saw Colby Covington get in the mix – all live on FOX Nation.
RAF Wrestling officials speak out after Arman Tsarukyan brawl at RAF06
Following Arman Tsarukyan’s actions at the RAF06 show on Saturday night, founder Chad Bronstein was joined by pro wrestling mogul Eric Bischoff at a press conference. After an initial insistence that they wouldn’t be commenting until they had reviewed the tape, they did have brief reactions to offer.
“First of all I want to make it clear because I have already been accused on social media of actually creating that scene because it looked so much like professional wrestling,” Bischoff noted. “But anybody that knows me or has ever worked with me knows I would never have let it go that long.
“It was just too long! Joking aside, I was disappointed because there is just so much good stuff about Real American Freestyle, I’m really proud of the entire team that works really hard to put together a great package…
“I was looking forward to cool moments, and yeah what happened tonight is going to create controversy and the right kind of controversy can create cash. But it can also create backlash, too. So we’re just going to look through the tape and deal with it.”
Bronstein then added: “I think it’s important that we pride ourselves on being a family-friendly combat sport, right? So obviously we don’t go out and try to have these situations happen, we’re at six events and not even a blip.
“It’s going to happen, unfortunately, but like Eric said we’ve just got to figure out how to make sure that it doesn’t.”
