Jiri Prochazka will return in April after getting the go ahead from his girlfriend first.
Prochazka will face Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 327 next month in Miami.
While he would’ve preferred to fight the former champion for a third time, Prochazka still believes that he and Alex Pereira will cross paths again in the future.
The fourth title fight of his UFC career isn’t the only reason that April is set to be a massively important month for ‘BJP’, which could’ve prevented him from returning.
Who wins in the UFC 327 main event?
Does Jiri Prochazka become two-time champion or is it Carlos Ulberg’s time as Pereira drops the belt?
Jiri Prochazka’s girlfriend said he should only fight for a title due to the upcoming birth of his first child
Jiri Prochazka’s girlfriend had some concerns about his UFC return due to the upcoming birth of their first child.
Prochazka’s reaction to the news showed just how important another shot at the light heavyweight gold is to the former champion.
However, he recently said during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show that his child’s due date is between April 13-15th, just several days after his main event at the Kaseya Center.
The Czech knockout artist added that it’s for this reason that his girlfriend only wanted him to compete around this date if it was a big opportunity like a title fight.
“My girlfriend told me, ‘If you will have the title fight on May 11’, because that was the possible date, ‘Let’s do that but it has to be a big fight. Don’t fight some like similar fight because you can fight all the year in these other normal fights.’ Then we started to negotiate with the UFC about the title fight,” he said.
Prochazka recorded two big knockout wins last year to set himself up for another title fight.
While he would’ve preferred to have fought in the months before or after his child’s due date, the UFC was able to meet his girlfriend’s demand.
