His win over Song Yadong on the first UFC event to air on Paramount appeared to get him back into the world title discussion. And with a win over current champion Petr Yan on his record, he is in a good position within the division.

Sean O’Malley plans UFC meeting for this week

Despite being one of the biggest names on the active UFC roster, Sean O’Malley appears to have been told next to nothing about his plans for this year. He doesn’t seem to be on the card for the big UFC White House event, even though he would be keen to appear.

And speaking with The Schmo ahead of a big week headlined by UFC 326 in Las Vegas, O’Malley revealed that he should know more details soon. “I don’t know,” he replied when asked if he would be the next contender for Petr Yan’s belt after the Russian recovers from back surgery.

“I haven’t talked to the UFC, I don’t know what is going on. White House card? Petr’s out? I don’t know what is going on to be honest. I have to talk to the UFC, I’m going to go and talk to them on March 6.

“I don’t know if I’m going to learn anything but I’m going to go and chat to them. I’m going to go to Vegas, watch the fights and I’m excited.”

Yan has stated his intent to get a rematch with O’Malley after their meeting in October of 2022 ended in a controversial split decision for the American. And now that he holds the belt, it could be a perfect opportunity for the pair to headline.
