According to Carlos Prates, Conor McGregor turned down the opportunity to fight him in his comeback.
Ever since the UFC White House event on June 14 was announced, Conor McGregor has been gearing up to make his return on the card.
And although it seemed almost guaranteed that the former UFC double champion would be included on the event, it was reported last week that he is now not expected to be on the event.
With the Irishman now targeted to make his return in July on the International Fight Week card, there have been several rumors surfacing regarding potential opponents.
CHANGE MY MIND: Conor McGregor is the UFC’s greatest legend
‘Notorious’ took MMA to the next level at the height of his legendary career.
Carlos Prates: Claims Conor McGregor turned down a fight against him
After claiming that he accepted a fight against a no-name opponent, McGregor began to get linked to a fight against Carlos Prates.
And according to the Brazilian, the fight was offered to the 37-year-old but he ‘chickened out’ and ‘ran away’.
“Nothing came to me from the UFC, but I believe they did offer my name to Conor McGregor, though,” Prates told Laerte Viana MMA.
“Yes (my name was offered to McGregor) and then he chickened out and ran away… Because I’m a tough matchup, man. The guy’s been inactive for five years, and it’s not even in his weight class.
“Even though his last fights were at 170lbs, he’s not a natural 170-pounder. I’m coming in with all the hype, knocking everyone out. So I believe that if I were in his position, I wouldn’t accept that fight either, no way.
“I think he probably wants to fight, I don’t know, maybe a former champion or someone like that.”

Who will Conor McGregor fight in his UFC comeback?
Although ‘The Nightmare’ believes ‘The Notorious’ wants to fight a former champion, there seemingly aren’t many options for him.
McGregor remains adamant that his comeback fight should take place against Michael Chandler, however, Dana White has previously revealed he’s no longer interested in that fight.
At this point, seemingly the best option for McGregor is a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz, who has been teasing a return to the promotion for a while now.
