Vitor Petrino overcame a slow start and an injury to put an exclamation point on his latest win.
The Brazilian heavyweight scored a spectacular knockout of Thomas Petersen at UFC Rio, landing a crisp two-punch combination that left Petersen face-down on the canvas unconscious.

Following the victory, Petrino apologized for a lack of conditioning, blaming a knee injury he suffered in camp for affecting his performance.
Petrino might have eventually worked his way to a decision win regardless (he was up on one scorecard heading into the final round), but he took the judges out of the equation with a pair of brutal punches that separated Petersen from his consciousness. The official time of the stoppage was 0:26 of Round 3.
That’s two straight wins for Petrino now since moving up from the light heavyweight division. His UFC record stands at 6-2 overall.
Peterson is finished for the first time in his 14-fight career. He falls to 2-3 inside the octagon.
