Once again, referee Dan Miragliotta found himself at the center of a controversy.
During Saturday’s UFC Vancouver co-main event, Mike Malott landed not one, but two low blows in just over a minute span — with the second leaving Holland in severe pain and taking the full five minutes before electing to continue. Instead of taking a point, Miragliotta gave Holland a stern warning, adding to an already tough night at the office for the veteran official.
Before the second round began, Holland was visibly still in immense pain. Miragliotta asked Holland if he wanted to continue, but Holland didn’t respond. After consulting with a doctor and another official, Holland made it out for Round 2, despite clearly being less than 100 percent, and probably not in condition to compete.
As expected, Malott took over the fight, and won the last two rounds to pick up the unanimous decision.
Once again, UFC fighters were frustrated by the officiating, and let it be known on Twitter.
