Third time appears to be the charm for Jackson McVey.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that McVey will compete this Saturday after all, with Zach Reese stepping in on short notice. The bout will take place at a catchweight of 195 pounds.
McVey was slated to meet Robert Valentin at the event, but an injury scratched Valentin from the event. The plan was for Donte Johnson to step in for his second bout in as many weeks following his second-round stoppage win over Sedriques Dumas at UFC Vegas 110 this past Saturday. However, Johnson was not cleared to compete by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
The 26-year-old McVey looks to bounce back in his sophomore octagon appearance after getting submitted in the first round by Brunno Ferreira at UFC 318 in July. Prior to that, “The Moose” stopped all six of his pro opponents in the first round — four of which took place under the LFA banner.
Reese returns after fighting Dumas to a no-contest following an accidental groin shot at Noche UFC. “Savage” is set to make his seventh UFC appearance, winning three of his past five outings.
UFC Vegas 111 is headlined by a welterweight clash between Gabriel Bonfim and Randy Brown.
