One of the most anticipated non pay-per-view matchups on the fall schedule is finally upon us.
Vergil Ortiz Jnr, 23-0 (21 KOs) is set to defend the interim version of the WBC 154lbs title against veteran contender Erickson Lubin, 27-2 (19 KOs). DAZN will air their scheduled 12-round junior middleweight contest Saturday evening from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The event provides a home game for Ortiz, who hails from nearby Grand Prairie. Ortiz knocked out each of his 21 previous opponents before going the distance in back-to-back decision victories over Serhii Bohachuk and former WBA 154lbs titlist Israil Madrimov.
Lubin carries a three-fight winning streak into the evening. The 30-year-old southpaw from Orlando, Florida suffered a ninth-round stoppage defeat to Sebastian Fundora in their Fight of the Year contender in April 2022. He has since notched victories over Luis Arias, top contender Jesus Ramos Jnr and unbeaten southpaw Ardreal Holmes in their May 11 IBF title eliminator in Kissimmee, Florida.
Saturday’s showdown will mark Lubin’s third consecutive unbeaten opponent and fourth in his past five contests.
