Jake Paul might finally get Dana White interested enough to watch one of his upcoming fights.
With rumors swirling that Paul is potentially considering a heavyweight showdown against Olympic gold medalist and former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in December, White was asked his opinion about that fight. While nothing has been finalized, Paul has repeatedly teased his interest in fighting Joshua, and he’s currently without an opponent after his planned fight with Gervonta “Tank” Davis that was originally scheduled for Friday got scrapped.
While rumors about Paul vs. Joshua was news to him, White definitely had an opinion about that potential fight.
“Oh Jesus,” White said at the UFC 322 post-fight press conference when told about the possible matchup. “That’s a f*cking bad idea. That’s a bad idea.”
Paul currently sports a 12-1 record in his professional boxing career but his lone fight with a heavyweight came against 58-year-old Mike Tyson — a bout that went to a decision.
Outside of that, Paul has mostly faced MMA fighters crossing over to boxing, much smaller opponents or journeymen boxers with experience but seemingly no shot to actually beat him in the ring.
In his one loss, Paul dropped a lackluster split decision to Tommy Fury.
In other words, Paul would likely face enormous odds going against a veteran like Joshua, who has been ranked among the best heavyweights in the world with plenty of championship experience under his belt.
While Joshua did suffer a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in his most recent outing, he did score a devastating knockout over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in his second professional boxing match.
Assuming the fight actually happens, White expects a whole lot of people to watch that one but mostly because he believes Joshua likely lays waste to Paul in brutal fashion.
“Let me tell you what, a lot of people will watch that one,” White said. “Sure [I’ll watch]. You know what everybody’s tuning in for on that one. I think everybody’s going to get what they’ve finally been waiting for.”
