Sean Strickland’s coach shared his reaction to his fighter’s post-fight press conference being cut short.
Unsurprisingly, the former UFC middleweight champion had a lot to say after returning to the win column this past weekend.
Strickland called out Khamzat Chimaev to start conversations around whether this should be the division’s next title fight.
His comments didn’t stop at the current titleholder, with Strickland also apologizing to Anthony Hernandez’s daughter, among other statements.
The American’s coach wasn’t necessarily surprised to see UFC staff enter the post-fight press conference and call things off before the main event winner was finished talking.
Is this the fight to make next?
Sean Strickland called out Khamzat Chimaev after his win at UFC Houston
Eric Nicksick only found out about Sean Strickland’s press conference after it happened
Sean Strickland’s mic was cut off during his post-fight press conference as UFC staff attempted to bring his conversations with the media to a close.
The former champion still answered another question without the use of a microphone before leaving his chair to tie a bow on UFC Houston.
Strickland’s coach, Eric Nicksick, also cornered Dan Ige on the same night which meant that he wasn’t there to see this moment, though he wasn’t surprised by what he’d been told.
“I wasn’t in there,” he told Submission Radio. “I was in the locker room to see if I can check on Dan and then Dan had already left back to the house so I was by myself, man, I wasn’t around any of that stuff. So, I didn’t hear about it until later and then Oscar [Willis] actually flew next to me on the flight home so he was kind of telling me some of that stuff but I didn’t catch any of it, I wasn’t even around for any of that stuff.”
The Mac Life’s Oscar Willis was one of the people that the American specifically spoke about during his press conference that, as is often the case on Strickland’s fight weeks, touched on several controversial topics.
Nicksick is no stranger to people asking him what he makes of his fighter’s public comments.
He joked that if anything, he’s surprised it took this long for someone to take the microphone away from him while he’s holding court.
“It’s about time right? Somebody had to hit the ‘wrap it up button’ on him… good times.”

Eric Nicksick did address Sean Strickland talking about his training with Khamzat Chimaev
Eric Nicksick might not be surprised by the things that Sean Strickland says at this point but he did take issue with one part of his fighter’s post-fight comments.
The former champion has spoken a lot about his previous training sessions with Khamzat Chimaev when talking about a potential matchup between them.
Strickland even said after UFC Houston that his coaches can back up his claims about ‘Borz’ because they were there to witness what went down.
“I think what happens in the training room should stay in the training room,” Nicksick told Submission Radio when asked his opinion.
