Mike Perry went a year and a half between bare-knuckle fights before making his return to BKFC in October but he might not have to wait nearly as long for his next assignment.
After defeating Jeremy Stephens in the main event at BKFC 82, Perry revealed a long list of potential opponents he would be interested in facing next, although he admitted many of them seemed hesitant to actually clash with him in bare-knuckle. While nothing is done yet, BKFC president David Feldman told MMA Fighting that plans are already in motion for Perry’s next fight with negotiations ongoing with a potentially big named opponent.
“Mike Perry, as me and you discussed, always needs the right dance partner,” Feldman told MMA Fighting. “He can’t fight someone that doesn’t make sense. We have someone that makes sense and if we cross the finish line, we’re certainly going to do something with him and I think it’s just going to blow the doors off the place.
“That’s not done yet. Honestly, I think it’s going to get done but you just never know if it’s going to get done.”
Before the Stephens fight was made, BKFC had been in talks with former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler on a potential comeback for a fight against Perry. Ultimately that matchup didn’t come together so BKFC moved onto other offers instead.
Of course, Feldman has spoken often about pursuing ex-UFC title challenger Darren Till as an opponent for Perry but the two sides were never able to come to an agreement. Till has expressed his hesitancy to crossover into bare-knuckle fighting and it’s possible he’s even less interested now that he’s established a boxing career, which includes a devastating knockout over former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
With talks ongoing for Perry’s next opponent, Feldman admitted that it’s possible “The King of Violence” could return as early as February with the promotion returning to Philadelphia for the KnuckleMania VI. Perry has already headlined two previous KnuckleMania events, which is always a marquee outing for the promotion each year.
The next KnuckleMania card scheduled for Feb. 7, which is one night before the Super Bowl takes place.
“Tentatively, Mike Perry coming back for KnuckleMania could be a big part of the plan,” Feldman teased.
So far in his BKFC career, Perry is undefeated with a perfect 6-0 record including his own win over Rockhold as well as victories over Eddie Alvarez and current UFC star Michael “Venom” Page.
