Charles Oliveira fulfills post-UFC Rio promise with party for the kids in hometown

Charles Oliveira gave hundreds of kids a party in his hometown Guaruja, Brazil, after coming out victorious in the main event of UFC Rio.

“Do Bronx” said before leaving the octagon Saturday night, moments after beating Mateusz Gamrot for his 18th victory on Brazilian soil, that he would win a $50,000 bonus and use the money to throw a party for the kids in the favela.

Alongside his wife and parents, Oliveira closed a street with toys, food and cake to give back to the community on Children’s Day, a date that is celebrated Oct. 12 in Brazil.

“In the street I was born and raised,” Oliveira said on a video posted by his wife. “There’s going to be a party for the kids. Guys, no big deal, cake and toys for the kids to have fun.”

“Every time Charles fights I make a promise, and this time I promised to throw a party for the kids — and that’s what we’re doing,” Oliveira’s wife Vitoria Brum said on social media. “Thank You for all the blessings and achievements. May God give us more so we can share with all of you.”

The former UFC champion improved to 7-0 under the UFC banner when competing in his native Brazil and called for a BMF title bout with Max Holloway as his next move in the lightweight division.
