Colby Covington wants Paddy Pimblett at UFC White House: ‘It’s a U.K. vs. an American guy’

In honor of American independence, Colby Covington wants to rehash the Revolutionary War.

This summer, a once-in-a-lifetime event goes down from the South Lawn of the White House, as the UFC will host an event in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. UFC White House figures to be one of the biggest events in promotional history, and as such, everyone wants on the card, including President Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed favorite fighter, Colby Covington.

And in a perfect world, Covington would also get a chance to settle his beef with Paddy Pimblett.

“What interests me about the Paddy fight is, obviously, we had our run-in backstage in Miami,” Covington told Mike Heck of MMA Fighting. “I was just walking by with a mamacita, and he starts screaming at me. I’m walking with my mamacita, and I’m like, ‘Is that Paddy Pimblett? What are you doing, bro? Why are you screaming at me?’ [Mocks Pimblett’s voice]. He was just screaming like he had marbles in his mouth, and he was saying some little wanker shit. ‘You’re wanker. You’re a wanker.’ And I’m like, bro, what are you talking about? Come say it to my face.

“And then four security guards have to carry me back. There’s one little girl with her finger on his chest, and he’s like, ‘You’re lucky she’s holding me back!’ Bro, it’s a f*cking girl, dude. If you’re that tough, come get it, Paddy.”

Covington and Pimblett have been feuding for nearly a year now, and given that Pimblett is one of the biggest stars from England, Covington thinks America 250 is a perfect time to settle the grudge.

“What interests me is he’s got a little character, he’s got a little charisma,” Covington said. “He’s got a little bowl cut and an English accent, so people give him a little hype. The fight makes sense because it’s a U.K. vs. an American guy. It’s going to be on the 250th anniversary of America, since our great independence in 1776. So, it makes a lot of sense. A foreigner vs. an American on American soil, on White House grounds. So, I think it’s the biggest and best fight we could make at 170.”

There’s only one problem: Pimblett is not a 170-pounder. In January, Pimblett faced Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title, losing a decision, and previously fought at featherweight. He’s never competed at welterweight, where Covington has spent most of his career. But with how big Pimblett is for the weight class, Covington thinks it’s time for him to move up.

“He literally had a doctor check-up a couple months ago, and the doctor said, ‘Paddy, you need to stop cutting all this weight. Your organs are going to fail one day,’” Covington said. …

“So, it’s not like I’m trying to pick on him, or he’s a little guy. He weighs more than me. He says he walks around at 200. I walk around at 190-195. We’re similar size. Let’s make the fight happen. It’s the biggest and best fight we can do for the fans. And I just like the fight because he’s got some interesting characteristics.”
