Referee Dan Miragliotta became the focus of the Kyle Nelson vs. Matt Frevola main card opener at UFC Vancouver.
Late in the first round, Nelson had Frevola in big, big trouble and was close to finishing the fight with vicious ground-and-pound. Miragliotta appeared to step in to stop the fight with three seconds left on the clock, but the fight ended up continuing as Miragliotta said Round 2 would begin.
After the crazy moment from Miragliotta, the fight went on for two more rounds, and it was a barnburner throughout. In the end, Nelson did enough to win on the scorecards, earning a unanimous decision. The right fighter won in the end despite the unbelievable controversy in the early stages of the bout.
With the win, Nelson has now won four of five and he makes a successful move up to lightweight after previously competing primarily at 145 pounds.
