Conor McGregor might end up headlining the first ever UFC card at the White House but nothing is a done deal just yet.
That’s according to UFC CEO Dana White, who admitted that McGregor has been rather adamant about making his long awaited return at that event but it’s far too early to considering anything booked. Actually, White doubled down on his plans to wait until February to really start looking ahead at the possible matchups that could take place at the White House and that includes any potential strategy to book McGregor for his first fight in five years.
White also refuted McGregor’s claim that he was talking directly to members of President Donald Trump’s staff to ensure his place on the White House card.
“We’re still talking about the production and how everything’s going to work at the White House,” White said at the UFC 320 post-fight press conference. “We have not started negotiating any fights for the White House yet. That won’t even start until February.
“I made it clear, Conor wants to fight on that card and you can clearly see Conor is very fired up to fight on that card but nothing is done yet. No fights are being negotiated with the White House.”
Of course, McGregor competing on that historic card would make a lot of sense, especially given the magnitude of that particular event, which is taking place directly on the White House lawn.
Despite his absence from the sport since 2021 when he suffered a gruesome broken leg during his Dustin Poirier trilogy, McGregor remains the biggest name in the UFC and the most sizable draw by a wide margin.
Given the UFC’s plans for the White House card, McGregor fighting there would be a huge addition to what White is promising could be even more monumental than a show like UFC 300, which was also touted as the biggest card in history.
But first things first, White says the UFC kicking off the new broadcast deal with Paramount in January takes priority and then the entire company turns its attention to the White House.
“So if you look at what we’re looking down the barrel of right now, we’re about to go on a new network on Paramount and we need to deliver a massive, incredible card in January,” White said.
“Then in February we’ll start looking at building the White House, which I will right now tell you will be the greatest fight card ever assembled in the history of definitely this company.”
