Ex-UFC star trained by Jon Jones lands vicious KO in bizarre backyard boxing fight

One man in Wichita Falls, Texas had no idea what he was getting himself in for.

Jon Jones’ current focus may be on Tom Aspinall but the consensus greatest of all time has had many rivals throughout his incredible career.

Back at UFC 159 in 2013, Jones ended his feud with Chael Sonnen by stopping him in the opening round to defend the light heavyweight title.

The pair had previously coached against each other on the 17th season of The Ultimate Fighter where one of Jones’ teammates was a part of the cast.

Bubba McDaniel has a quite remarkable combat sports record but after a hiatus in his career, the 41-year-old recently made a return of sorts.

Bubba McDaniel brutally knocks opponent out in backyard boxing match

In his first fight of the series, Bubba McDaniel was submitted by Kelvin Gastelum who was the youngest fighter in the history of the show at the time at just 21-years-old.

The Team Jones fighter got another shot when he was picked for one of the wildcard spots, advancing to the next round after beating Kevin Casey before encountering a dangerous knockout artist.

McDaniel was eliminated once again after being stopped in devastating fashion by Uriah Hall but a triangle armbar win over Gilbert Smith at the finale gave him his first win inside the Octagon.

The Jackson Wink fighter would go on to compete two more times in the UFC, suffering losses to Brad Tavares and Sean Strickland before departing in 2014.

He went on to fight for various promotions like Bellator and Fury FC with his last pro bout coming in June of 2023 at ECF 1 in Texas.

McDaniel recently featured in a backyard boxing video posted by Santi P on February 25 where he brutally knocked out an opponent who wasn’t nearly a match for him.

After hurting his opponent several times, a big left hand closed the show and sent his man crashing to the floor out cold.

The video has been posted several times by Santi P on Instagram but the full fight can be found via the video below at the following timestamp of 17:20-19:45.

Bubba McDaniel hasn’t fought professionally since 2023 after having his arm shattered in a shooting

Bubba McDaniel received some criticism across the various videos of the fight after clearly being a better fighter than his opponent.

The contest was a mismatch and it was clear to see that from the moment the fight started but that often happens with these backyard-style events.

In one of his comments, with McDaniel replying to several posts about his career in the UFC, the 41-year-old explained why he hasn’t fought in nearly two years after having his left arm shattered when he was shot in September of 2023.

“Its funny people don’t talk about my left arm being shattered from being shot in Sept 23′ also. I’m lucky to be punching with it at all again. It has no pop like it used to.”

McDaniel is now set to return to pro competition after signing a contract with Bare Knuckle Boxing (BKB).
