Kyoji Horiguchi continues to shine in his second UFC run.
“The Karate Kid” put on a show in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 113 main event, winning a convincing decision over Amir Albazi and possibly putting himself into pole position for a future flyweight title shot. Heading into the fight, Horiguchi was No. 3 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, and only improved his standing with his latest performance.
His peers agree as he was lavished with praise following the win, with bantamweight star Merab Dvalishvili writing on Twitter, “Wow, what a performance by Kyoji Horiguchi. He’s going to get flyweight belt. Congratulations.”
Horiguchi fought for the flyweight belt in his first UFC run, losing to champion Demetrious Johnson in 2015, but later went on an incredibly successful run in Japan where he won titles at 125 and 135 pounds. Based on what the pros are saying, it sounds like it’s time for the 35-year-old to get another crack.
