Jose Medina is one of two UFC Mexico City fighters to depart the roster following their recent fights.
The leading MMA promotion welcomed some new names to the Octagon during this past Saturday’s event at Arena CDMX.
Among them, Regina Tarin won her UFC debut after stepping in on short notice to capitalize on a huge opportunity that came her way just three days prior.
While there were some big wins at UFC Mexico City, two fighters who suffered losses will no longer be on the promotion’s books going forward.

Jose Medina cut after Dana White signed him on a loss without consulting the matchmakers
On Monday, Guilherme Cruz reported that Jose Medina and Felipe Bunes are no longer a part of the UFC roster following their losses this past weekend.
Dana White signed Medina in 2023 following a loss on the Contender Series and admitted that he wasn’t sure why he was choosing to offer him a contract after being impressed by his heart.
“I didn’t talk to the matchmakers about this, I didn’t talk to anybody about this but I could be doing this for all the wrong reasons, I could be doing this for all the right reasons,” he said. “I don’t know what the answer is right now but I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna bring Medina into the UFC.”
Medina’s unanimous decision loss to Magomed Gadzhiyasulov has now turned into a five-fight losing streak, with his 41-second defeat to Ryan Gandra on Saturday night being his third consecutive KO setback.
Bunes, on the other hand, lost a narrow split decision to Edgar Chairez on the main card, ending his run with the promotion with a record of 1-3.
He was stopped by current flyweight champion Joshua Van in his debut back in January, 2024.
It isn’t clear at this time whether both men were released from their contracts or whether their deals expired and the UFC chose not to re-sign them.
