Magomed Ankalaev has released his first statement since losing the light heavyweight title.
On Saturday, Ankalaev dropped his light heavyweight title when he was knocked out by Alex Pereira in their rematch at UFC 320. It’s a devastating loss for Ankalaev, who does not appear positioned for an immediate rematch. But despite the major setback, Ankalaev remains resolute in his career.
On Sunday, the former champion released his first statement since dropping the title, thanking his supporters and saying this outcome will only strengthen him moving forward.
“If Allah tested me with defeat, then He wants to toughen me.
“I bow to His will, but not to difficulties.
“To those who stayed – thank you.
“To those who turned out, thank you too.
“After all, Allah clears the way not only of weakness, but also of unnecessary people.”
The loss is Ankalaev’s first defeat since 2018, when he was submitted at the last second by Paul Craig in his UFC debut. Since then, Ankalaev had been unbeaten over 14 fights, including his decision victory over Pereira at UFC 313.
