Michael Chandler taunted UFC 314 fighter after brutally knocking out his brother

Despite this, a reoccurring theme in the build to UFC 314 has been Chandler’s rivalry with Patricio Pitbull now that the former Bellator stars are signed to the MMA leader.

Both men achieved great things in the promotion with Chandler making the switch back in 2021 after knocking out Benson Henderson.

‘Iron’ Mike has downplayed the tension between them but there was a point in time where he actively heated up the rivalry after delivering a jaw-dropping knockout.

At Bellator 157 in June of 2016, Michael Chandler faced Patricky Pitbull in a rematch for the vacant Bellator lightweight title.

Chandler has already reigned as the 155-pound titleholder once before but after losing the title and three consecutive bouts, he had rebounded with back-to-back wins in 2015.

The American had already beaten his Brazilian foe once before in 2011 where he won the lightweight tournament via a unanimous decision but this time around, he wanted to make a statement and he certainly did just that.

UFC fans have seen Chandler unleash some incredibly powerful punches inside the Octagon but the greatest example of his one-punch knockout ability came in the red Bellator gloves.

‘Iron’ Mike detonated a huge right hand to end the fight in the blink of an eye, producing one of the most iconic knockouts in the history of the promotion during the opening round.

Chandler celebrated with multiple backflips before he jumped on the cage and started exchanging words with Patricky’s younger brother, Patricio Pitbull, who was in the corner that night.

Whilst Pitbull stated that he wanted to avenge his brother’s losses, Chandler responded by saying that he would kill him.

Three years later, the two men would finally cross paths inside the cage with Pitbull stopping the former UFC title challenger in just over a minute at Bellator 221.

They will now step inside the Octagon at UFC 314 with different weight classes being the only thing that is keeping them apart right now.

Patricio Pitbull got the last laugh but the feud isn’t dead to him

Whilst Michael Chandler has wished Patricio Pitbull success and is willing to let bygones be bygones, the same cannot be said for the Brazilian.

Pitbull has made it clear that this rivalry hasn’t ended just because he got his revenge after some previous comments that were exchanged.

The 37-year-old is entering the UFC at featherweight which makes the chances of seeing another fight with Chandler relatively unlikely.

However, regardless of how his upcoming clash with Yair Rodriguez plays out, it looks like Pitbull will never truly bury the hatchet with his former foe.
