Shara Magomedov wants to be the first fighter to bring back the UFC to Russia – and believes it could be a monumental event.
The UFC have never been to Russia for a numbered event, hosting three fight nights over 14 months between 2018 and 2019. Since the coronavirus pandemic and amid sanctions surrounding their ongoing conflict in Ukraine, there have been very few international sporting events in the country.

However, it is undeniable that Russian fighters – in particular from Dagestan – have emerged as some of the biggest stars in the sport. And ‘Shara Bullet‘ believes that he can be the man to bring them back to Moscow for a show that he feels could take the shine from UFC White House.
Shara Magomedov wants UFC to host show in Moscow’s Red Square
Russia is the home to many UFC world champions such as Magomed Ankalaev, Islam Makhachev and Petr Yan, as well as the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov. That’s not to mention the countless PFL and Bellator title holders who have come from the nation.
However, due to political unrest and other logistical issues, the UFC has not returned to either Moscow or Saint Petersburg for events since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Now, Shara Magomedov wants to be the man to drag them back for a massive show.
Speaking with Red Corner MMA, the fan favorite middleweight said: “One of my big dreams is to get the UFC back to Russia. So there will be all the good Russian men in attendance, the entire Caucasus along with all my fans from around the world who support me.
“It would be a great international fighting event. Everybody is talking about the White House event, but we will do our best to make people talk about Red Square. Moscow, Russia, power.”
While Dana White is not a fan of outdoor events and has preferred to run arenas around the world, Red Square could be a fascinating location. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers famously played to a crowd of 300,000 there, while East 17 also reported a crowd of a similar size in the 90s.
