Tom Aspinall trashes ‘cheat’ Ciryl Gane and his ‘disgusting fingernails’ after claiming no date yet for rematch

December 16, 2025

Tom Aspinall unleashed on Ciryl Gane after the former interim UFC heavyweight champion claimed he was still awaiting word on when he might be scheduled to compete again.

Of course the first encounter between these two ended in disappointing fashion after Gane poked Aspinall in the eyes during the opening round in the UFC 321 main event. The foul was deemed unintentional by the referee but the eye poke left Aspinall unable to see and the fight was declared a no-contest after the stoppage.

On Tuesday, Gane posted a photo showing him back in training alongside fellow UFC heavyweight Tai Tuivasa with the caption “Still no date or opponent yet… but we keep grinding and training hard before the holidays.”

That drew a fiery response from Aspinall, who has stated publicly that he’s still dealing with the aftermath of the eye pokes, which is now leading him to surgery to repair the damage done.

“No shit there’s not a date yet,” Aspinall wrote in Gane’s comments on Instagram. “I’m not medically cleared to fight and about to have surgery thanks to your disgusting fingernails.

“I’ll be back to smash your face in soon you cheat.”

Obviously there’s no love lost between these two as Aspinall continues to deal with vision problems after the eye pokes ended his first title defense as undisputed heavyweight champion.

It was a long road back to action for Aspinall after he was supposed to unify the titles with Jon Jones, which kept him sidelined for the better part of a year waiting for that matchup to get finalized.

Eventually, Jones decided he wasn’t interested and he relinquished his title before announcing his retirement from the sport.

Aspinall was then elevated to undisputed champion and booked for the fight against Gane in October but after an action-packed few minutes to open the heavyweight clash, the eye pokes ended the night early.

Now Aspinall is headed for surgery with no timeline given on when he might be able to compete again but he clearly sounds motivated to go back and settle the score with Gane once he’s cleared to fight.
