Charles Oliveira sent every fan at UFC Rio home happy and likely set himself up for a huge rematch.
The former lightweight champion added to his incredible legacy in Saturday’s main event, needing less than two rounds to out-grapple Mateusz Gamrot and put him away with a rear-naked choke. It was the 17th submission win of Oliveira’s career, extending the record he already held.
Oliveira remained undefeated in Brazil, improving to 18-0 in his home country. Astonishingly, this was the first time ever Oliveira had competed in a Brazil main event for the UFC.
Afterwards, Oliveira called for a rematch with Max Holloway. The two fought a lifetime ago in August 2015 and their bout ended in disappointing fashion when Oliveira suffered a shoulder injury. Now, Oliveira wants a chance to get that loss back with Holloway’s BMF title on the line.
Holloway was receptive to the suggestion on social media.
