Felipe Bunes and Jose Daniel Medina were removed from the UFC roster following their recent defeated on the Mexico City card on Feb. 28, MMA Fighting has learned.
Bunes (14-9) completed his deal with the organization losing a close split decision to Mexican flyweight Edgar Chairez, leaving with a promotional record of 1-3.
Bunes joined the UFC in 2024 after winning the LFA flyweight title and lost his debut to future champion Joshua Van. “Felipinho” rebounded with a first-round armbar over Jose Johnson before losing back-to-back decisions to Rafael Estevam — who missed weight by four pounds — and Chairez.
Medina (11-7) had a tougher luck in the octagon, leaving the organization after losing all four UFC bouts. Medina was knocked out by Ryan Gandra in just 41 seconds in Mexico, and was finished by Dusko Todorovic and Ateba Gautier his previous bouts, plus a decision setback to Zach Reese.
Medina also joined the UFC with a loss, signed by UFC CEO Dana White thanks to his effort in defeat to Magomed Gadzhiyasulov on the Contender Series in October 2023. A former champion in local promotions in South America, Medina enters free agency on a five-fight losing skid.
