Jacobe Smith remained undefeated after delivering a brutal ground-and-pound knockout over newcomer Josiah Harrell at UFC Houston.
It was a jaw-dropping finish after Harrell actually scored a takedown but Smith immediately reversed and immediately began dropping some vicious punches. Harrell appeared unconscious after just a couple of the shots landed but referee Kerry Hatley didn’t intervene so Smith continued dishing out punishment.
The fight was finally stopped after several more blows were landed with the end coming at 3:01 in the first round. It took several moments Harrell to get back to his feet but he was able to leave the octagon under his own power.
As for Smith, he moves to 12-0 as a professional and he’s eyeing bigger and better competition in his next fight.
“Another one,” Smith said about his victory. “Keep on stacking these knockouts. Houston, Texas, we have a star in the building tonight. I got a name in mind. Outside of the top 15, that’s where I want to be but Kevin Holland, where’s your bitch ass at?”
Prior to the callout, Smith was dominant in his performance as he showed off the size and strength advantage he maintained over Harrell. He popped the Ohio native with a couple of stiff jabs early and continued to press the pace while Harrell did his best to fire back whenever he closed the distance.
Unfortunately, Harrell wasn’t able to apply his grappling game until he got the takedown but that ended in disaster with Smith reversing positions and the unloading the fight finishing punches.
“I felt his body go limp,” Smith said about the finish. “That’s all she wrote.”
An All-American wrestler out of Oklahoma State, Smith has quickly become one of the top prospects in the UFC and it probably won’t be long before he’s taking on ranked competition in the welterweight division.
