Luan Lacerda wasn’t messing around after his opponent nearly messed up their UFC Rio fight.
On Friday, Saimon Oliveira weighed in at 144 pounds for his matchup with Lacerda. Only one problem: Their bout was scheduled to take place at bantamweight, not featherweight, meaning Oliveira was eight pounds over the limit.
However, the bout proceeded at a catchweight and Lacerda made sure to punish Oliveira for his miss, submitting him with an armbar in the second round. Watch the finish below.
Before they fighters even made the walk to the octagon, there was plenty of drama. After Oliveira’s absurd miss, it was agreed upon that he would forfeit 50 percent of his purse as penalty and could not weigh more than 155 pounds at a second weigh-in on Saturday. Oliveira adhered to the conditions and the bout remained on track.
Lacerda immediately went to his grappling when the bell rang, dominating Oliveira on the ground and nearly finding a choke at the end of Round 1. It was more of the same in Round 2, though Oliveira eventually ended up in top position. Still, it turned out to be be the beginning of the end for him as Lacerda threw up an armbar and drew a quick tap.
The official time of the stoppage was 3:55 into Round 2.
Lacerda scores his first UFC win, while Oliveira falls to 0-4 since being signed off Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021.
