Valter Walker needed 94 seconds to tap Louie Sutherland with a heel hook this past Saturday at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi but that was enough time to suffer a serious injury.
Walker revealed Tuesday that he broke his left fibula, courtesy of a calf kick landed by Sutherland early in the fight. He still managed to take his opponent to the ground and force him to submit.
According to the Brazilian, who has now won four in a row in the UFC, he will need “heavy recovery” for five to six weeks.
“The first week is the toughest,” Walker wrote on Instagram. “But I’ll tell you all, this is life worth living.”
“The Clean Monster” now holds a MMA record of 15-1 with four first-round victories in five octagon appearances, tapping out Junior Tafa, Don’Tale Mayes, Kennedy Nzechukwu and Sutherland. Walker was hoping to get back in action in November, competing at UFC’s upcoming show in Doha, but will now have to wait until 2026.
