Yoel Romero out of BKFC KnuckleMania VI, Lorenzo Hunt gets new opponent

January 27, 2026

BKFC KnuckleMania VI has taken a hit with multi-time UFC title challenger Yoel Romero being forced out of his scheduled contest against Lorenzo Hunt.

BKFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Tuesday with Romero falling ill with the flu prior to his fight, which ultimately forced him to drop off the card. With Romero out, BKFC middleweight champion Dave Mundell is stepping up to the challenge for a 199-pound catchweight non-title fight against Hunt on Feb. 7.

BKFC KnuckleMania VI goes down from the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia with the card airing live on DAZN.

It’s obviously disappointing news for Romero, who scored a knockout win in his BKFC debut and he was making his second appearance in the promotion for the fight against Hunt. Most recently, Romero returned to his wrestling roots with a pair of matches in Real American Freestyle, which included a shutout win over former Olympic hopeful Pat Downey.

Unfortunately now Romero will have to wait until a later date to fight again for BKFC.

As for the new fight, Mundell moves up in weight to face Hunt in a clash between two of the most experienced bare-knuckle fighters on the entire roster.

Mundell is 10-1 in his bare-knuckle career with his only loss coming in a decision back in 2020. Since that setback, Mundell has rattled off eight consecutive wins including victories over Mike Richman, Francisco Ricchi and Julian Lane.

Hunt vs. Mundell now serves as the co-main event at BKFC KnuckleMania VI with heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell defending his title against Andrei Arlovski in the main event.
